Some general animal names have been left alone, otherwise it would have been a huge rewriting of Pokemon lore - Pokedex entries saying Ekans is a “snake” for instance, or the word “bird” - clearly, these should stay put, but “Salmon” was replaced in NPC dialogue, for example. In these instances, the project does its best to select appropriate Pokemon world counterparts which tie the games even closer together. TEXT: VERY minor changes to text eliminate real world locations and animals. MAP: One VERY minor change to eliminate one instance where players could soft-lock themselves, and a few VERY minor changes in one city to make movement easier. …Also, in the spirit of vanilla, trades still come with nicknames (just new and more appropriate).
Attempts were made to use names of pokemon that have appeared in the Pokemon Adventures manga or TV show, or have a nice ties which the original translator might have made. The nicknames of the new trades were thought about very carefully so that they were very live-with-able. TRADES: All in-game trades have been redone, complete with new nicknames. No Pokemon have a 1% spawn rate - Some are pretty rare (4%/5%), but nothing insane. For any Pokemon that needed new places, plenty of consideration has been given to location and rarity. WILD POKEMON: All wild Pokemon missing from Yellow were added into appropriate routes from Red and/or Blue. GOALS: Have all 151 Pokemon obtainable in-game with well thought-out placements, enable Pikachu to learn SURF, change all direct references to real world places and animals to Pokemon-cannon alternatives, change two VERY minor places on the map for quality of life reasons, and to retain as much vanilla Yellow as possible: difficulty, dialogue, etc…
